This exchange is considered primarily in terms of its manifold connections between anti-colonial and postcolonial lives in Africa and Latin America. The point of departure is Chetna Vora’s documentary film OYOYO (1980), produced by the Film and Television Academy of the GDR, which recounts stories of the friendships between students from Guinea Bissau, Ethiopia, Mali, Cuba, and other places who are living in a hostel in Berlin.
